What did John see?
A vision of the risen Jesus exalted as king of the world.
Where was Jesus standing?
Among 7 burning lights.

The book of the prophet Zechariah 4.
What did Jesus start addressing?
Specific problems that face each church.
What were the conditions of some of the churches?
Some were apathetic due to wealth and affluence; others were morally compromised.
What were some of the congregation still doing?
Eating ritual meals, sleeping around and visiting pagan temples.
What were others of the congregation doing?
They remained faithful to Jesus.
What happened to those who remained faithful to Jesus?
They were suffering harassment and even violent persecution.
What did Jesus warn them about?
That things are going to get worse and that a ‘tribulation’ was upon the churches that would force them to choose between compromise or faithfulness.
What was passed by the Roman Emperor Nero?
The murder of Christians.
What was likely underway during this time?
The persecution of Christians by Emperor Domitian.
What was the temptation at that time?
To deny Jesus either to avoid persecution or simply to join the spirit of the Roman age.
What does Jesus call them to?
Faithfulness so that they can overcome or literally conquer.
What does Jesus promise?
A reward for everyone in these churches who does conquer.
