The conced loss of the game
Resign
The intentional loss of material to get a more important result
Sacrifice
Where a player is not in check, but has no legal moves. It is a draw in modern chess
Stalemate
A position usually in an ending where the player to move loses because they must move
Zugswang
Can move forward to unoccupied square immediately in front of it on the same tile
Pawn
Moves to any closest square that are not on the same rank
Knight
Can move any number of squares diagonally
Bishop
Can move any number of squares along a rank or file
Rook
Combines a power of a rank and bishop and can move any number of squares along a rank, file or diagonal
Queen
