Ch. 17 Flashcards
Platelets
Disk shaped elements in the blood that are fragments of the cells from the bone marrow
Acute coronary syndrome
Results from a variety of conditions that can affect the heart in which the coronary arteries are narrowed or occluded by fat deposits plaque clots or spasm
Aortic aneurysm
Occurs when a weakened section of the aortic wall usually resulting from atherosclerosis begin to dilate or balloon outward from the pressure exerted by the blood flowing through the vessel
Aortic dissection
Occurs when there is a tear in the inner lining of the aorta and blood enters the opening causes separation of the layers of the aortic wall
Acute coronary syndrome
Results from a variety of conditions that can affect the heart in which coronary arteries are narrowed or occluded by fat
Acute myocardial infarction(AMI)
Occurs when a portion of the heart muscle dies because of lack of an adequate supply of oxygenated blood
Angina pectoris
Which means pain in the chest. Symptom commonly associated with coronary artery disease
Aorta
Aorta
Arteriole
Carries blood to the capillaries
Arteriosclerosis
A condition that causes the smallest of arterial structures to become stiff and less elastic
Artery
Carry oxygenated blood to the arterioles
Atherosclerosis
Systemic arterial disease in which plaque builds up inside the arteries
Atria
Top two chambers of the heart
Automaticity
Electrical impulses created automatically independently of the autonomic nervous system of the body
Blood pressure
Is the amount of pressure exerted against the arterial wall during circulation
Capillary
Interface with cells throughout the body
Cardiac compromise
Emt recognize the signs and symptoms of the many possible cardiac conditions
Cardiac conduction system
Specialized conductive tissue
