Psychiatrists vs Psychiatric nurse practitioners vs Psychologists?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors (M.D. or D.O.) who have specialized in the assessment and treatment of psychological disorders.
Psychiatric nurse practitioners are nurses with advanced training and education (i.e., a master’s degree or doctorate) who, in many states, are able to prescribe and manage psychiatric medications.
Psychologists have a doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in psychology and are qualified to diagnose and treat disorders of behavior, emotion, and thought. Psychologists are “scientist–practitioners,” meaning they are trained to conduct and consume research as well as provide psychotherapy.
trepanation?
In history, this method entailed drilling holes into an individual’s skull to release the demons that were causing mental illness. Even though trepanation was considered a treatment, most people died as a result of the procedure.
