Primary innovation
Creation, invention, or chance discovery of a completely new idea, method, or device
Secondary innovation
Deliberate application or modification of an existing idea, method, or device
Diffusion
Spread of certain ideas, customs, or practices from one culture to another
Acculturation
Massive cultural change occurring after a society experiences firsthand contact with a more powerful society
Ethnocide
Dominant society deliberately sets out to destroy another society’s heritage; violent eradication of an ethnic group’s cultural identity as a distinct group
Syncretism
Fusion of indigenous and foreign beliefs into new cultural forms
Insurgency
Organized armed resistance or violent uprising to an established government or authority in power; AKA rebellion
Revolution
Radical change in a society or culture. Politically, forced overthrow of government and establishment of a new one
Modernization
Process of political and socioeconomic change, whereby developing societies acquire some cultural characteristics of Western societies
