Transference
Transference- The client transfer feeling from parents to the analyst.

Psychoanalysis
Psychoanalysis- Freudian approach to therapy - goal is to make the unconscious - conscious, emphasis is on childhood conflicts; techniques: free association, dream interpretation. “Relationships with your parents” “White women from the City”
Resistance
Resistance- Any client behavior that slow down the progress of therapy.
Psychodynamic
1a) Psychodynamic- Rejects emphasis on sexuality; focuses on patterns in relationships, family, recurring themes!
Humanistic / Client Centered Therapy
2). Humanistic / Client Centered Therapy- Focus on personal growth, therapist share genuine feelings, unconditional positive regard, empathic understanding.
Active Listening
Active Listening- is a communication technique used in counselling, training and conflict resolution, which requires the listener to feed back what they hear to the speaker, by way of re-stating or paraphrasing what they have heard in their own words.
Behavior Therapy
3). Behavior Therapy- Based on learning theory, emphasizes only the change of observable, measurable behavior; mostly used to stop unwanted behavior and/or the treatment of phobias.
Aversive Conditioning
Aversive Conditioning- Pair the unwanted behavior with some noxious stimulus in order to extinguish the behavior.
Systematic Desensitization
Systematic Desensitization- Systematically pair the imagined feared situation with relaxation.
Behavior Modification
Behavior Modification- Behavior is affected by consequences - operant conditioning.
Token Economy
Token Economy- A system of point used to reward/punish behavior.
Cognitive Therapy
Cognitive Therapy- Emphasizes the role of thoughts, attitudes and beliefs; “as you think, so you are.”
Stress Inoculation Training
Stress Inoculation Training- Attempts to replace negative self-talk and beliefs.
Cognitive - Behavioral Therapy
4a). Cognitive - Behavioral Therapy- An integrated approach that aims to modify both self-defeating thinking and maladaptive actions. “1 used in U.S.A.” “Fake it to you make it”
Biomedical Approaches
5). Biomedical Approaches- A conceptual model of illness that excludes psychological and social factors and includes only biologic factors in an attempt to understand a person’s medical illness or disorder.
