ch 13 study question Flashcards
what are some ways that weeds are classified?
- monocots= grassy weeds
- dicots= broadleaf weeds
- growth habits: annual (summer/winter), biannual, perenial
why is it important to identify weeds before attempting to control them?
a chemical may kill one species of weeds, but not the other
how can weeds be controlled by crop rotation?
some crops offer more competition to certain weeds than others do. tall-growing plants, for example, compete more than shorter plants. herbicides may also be rotated to reduce the possibility of weed species developing tolerance or resistance to a herbcide
what is the difference between a pre emergent and a post emergent herbicide?
- pre emergents help prevent new weeds from cropping up
- post emergents control weeds that have already germinated.
what herbicide effectively controls nutsedge?
dalapon or glyphosate
