Ch 13 RLC Circuits And Resonance Flashcards
XL and XC have opposing effects in an RLC circuit.
T
In a series RLC circuit, the larger reactance determines the net reactance of the circuit.
T
In a parallel RLC circuit, the smaller reactance determines the net reactance of the circuit.
T
Reactance are equal
The impedance is minimum & equal to R
The current is maximum
The phase angle is 0
The voltages across L and C are equal in magnitude and 180 out of phase with each other, cancel out.
Series Resonance
The reactance are app equal for Q>=10
The impedance is maximum
The current is minimum and ideally = 0
Phase angle is 0
Currents = in mag, 180 out of phase. Cancel out
Parallel Resonance
A band pass filter passes freq between the lower and upper freq and rejects all others
Parallel Resonance
A band stop filter rejects freq between the lower and upper freq and passes all others
Parallel Resonance
The bandwidth of a resonant filter is determined by the quality factor (Q) of the circuit a s the resonant frequencies.
T
Cutoff freq are also called -3 dB freq or critical freq.
T
The output voltage is 70.7% of its maximum at the cutoff freq.
