Ch. 13 Protective Equipment Flashcards
Define MAD
Minimum Approach Distance is the closet distance an employee is permitted to approach an exposed energized part. You are considered to be in the MAD of any part of your body, the aerial lift, or conductive material that you hold could extend into the energized area
Define Isolating
Avoiding any contact that would provide a path to ground or difference of potential
Define Insulating
Place non-conductive insulating protective/rubber goods between/on conductors, neutral, guy wires or other grounded surfaces within the primary work area
What is the first MAD precaution as outlined in the study guide?
Never enter the MAD or touch energized equipment without all required PPE and protective devices in place.
What is the second MAD precaution?
Avoid contact with voltages of 50-300v. Avoid bridging the gap or getting in series.
What is the third MAD precaution?
Always control conductors when handling them. Never get in series when making connections, especially when making taps or any connections such as at a transformer.
What is the fourth MAD precaution?
Always follow all required safety procedures and rules
