Integers
All whole numbers and their opposites
Ex., … -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 …
Positive Integer
A whole number greater than zero
Negative Integer
A whole number less than zero
Absolute Value
The distance a number is from zero
Commutative Property
States that two numbers may be added or multiplied in either order
Commutative Property of Addition
a + b = b + a
Commutative Property of Multiplication
a · b = b · a
Associative Property
Allows you to add or multiply with different groupings ; the final answer does not change
Associative Property of Addition
( a + b ) + c = a + ( b + c )
Associative Property of Multiplication
(a · b ) · c = a · ( b · c )
Distributive Property
The product of a number and a sum:
a · ( b + c ) = ( a · b ) + ( a · c )
The product of a number and a difference:
a · ( b - c ) = ( a · b ) - ( a · c )
Variable
A symbol, usually a letter, that represents an unknown number
x-axis
The horizontal line on a grid that passes through the origin
y-axis
The vertical line on a grid that passes through the origin
Origin
The point on a grid with the coordinates (0, 0)
