Ch 13 Flashcards
Anatomic reservoir
In an average adult it is estimated that this reservoir has a volume of about 50ml
Low flow oxygen system
Supplies oxygen enriched gas as a part of a patients inspiratory flow needs
What is the lambert beer law
A substances pattern of light absorption varies predictably with the amount present
Pulse oximetry
Is the measurement of oxygen saturation non invasively using multiple wavelengths of light
End tidal co2 monitoring
Used to monitor the partial pressure of co2 in inhaled gas. Used in the anesthesia setting and the critical care setting to monitor the adequacy of ventilation
Limitations of co2 monitoring
Shunt producing pulmonary disease
Pulmonary emboli
Tubing obstructions
Kyphosis
An abnormal curation of the upper spine
Kyphoscoliosis
A combination of kyphosis and scoliosis. Asses the lateral curve of the spine first by comparing heights of the scapulae
Clubbing
Caused by lung disease
Tactile fremitus
A vibration felt on the palpation of the chest during phonation or speech
Percussion
Tapping on the chest while listening for the resulting sound
Tenderness
May provide important clues to underlying problems
Subcutaneous emphysema
The presence of air beneath the skin in the subcutaneous tissue
Tracheal deviation
Deviation of the trachea from it’s normal midline position may be indicative of several underlying conditions
