Ch 12: Inflammation and Wound Healing Flashcards
Adhesions
Bands of scar tissue that form between or around organs
Dehiscence
Separation and disruption of previously joined wound edges
Fibroblasts
Immature connective cells that migrate into the healing site and secrete collagen
Hypertrophic scars
Inappropriate large, raised, red and hard scars
Inflammatory response
Sequential reaction to cell injury
Pressure ulcer
Localized injury to skin and/or underlying tissues as a result of pressure or pressure in combination with shear and/or friction (usually at a bony prominence)
Regeneration
Replacement of lost cells and tissue with cells of the same type
Repair
Healing as a result of lost cells be replaced by connective tissue
Shearing force
Pressure exerted on the skin when it adheres to the bed and the skin layers slide in the direction of body movement
Evisceration
Occurs when wound edges separate to the extent that intestines protrude through the wound
