Deciphering Hopewell
200 BC to 400 AD. it’s famous for its earthquakes, burial customs, and complex trade networks. they lived in small isolated towns of one or two extended families. this was in the us in areas like ohio and mississippi.
Cognitive-Processual Archaeology
covers human behavior especially religion and beliefs. it’s divided into two big groups. one involves studying cognitive facilities of premodern hominins. the relationship toolmaking and cognitive thinking like the origin of languages along with behavior. the other covers the past 100000 years of cognitive aspects such as major homo sapien developments like food production
Archaeological Theory Today & Tomorrow
theory is a tool to identify, label and explain the past. there is processual and post processual which collide. an example is feminism theory. studying what men and women did in the past show gender roles and relations very harshly.
Alternative Histories; Neo-Colonialism
archeologists used to do field work alone. now all different types of scientists in this field work together at different sites with their expertise. it’s a way to bring different specialists in and help with things like different cultural backgrounds
