Ch 10 Flashcards
Muscular System
Makes up almost 1/2 of your body weight.
Axial Muscles
Support and position the axial skeleton.
Appendicular Skeleton
Support,move,and brace the limbs.
Parallel Muscle
Are parallel to the long axis of the muscle.
Convergent Muscle
Muscle fascicles extending over a broad area converge on a common attachment site.
Pennant Muscle
the fascicles form a common angle with the tendon.
Circular muscle
the fascicles are concentric ally arranged to encircle a duct, tube, or opening.
Lever
a rigid structure, such as a board or crowbar, used to lift or pry something that pivots on a fixed point called the fulcrum
first class lever
lies between the applied force and the load
second class lever
the load is located between the applied force and the fulcrum
third class levers
the force is applied between the load and the fulcrum
origin
the place where the fixed end attaches
intermuscular septa
components of the deep fascia that may separate adjacent skeletal muscles
insertion
the site where the movable end attaches to another structure
Action
When a muscles contract or produces a specific movement
