Ch. 1: The Big Picture (Anatomical terms of position) Flashcards
the study of the structure and relationships between body parts
Anatomy
the science of how those parts come together to function and keep the body alive
Physiology
body is erect, facing forward, arms at sides, palms forward
Anatomical Position
plane that divides the body into left and right parts
Sagittal plane
section that divides the body into equal left and right parts
Midsagittal section
section that divided the body in unequal left and right parts
Para-sagittal section
plane that divides the body into anterior and posterior parts
Coronal or Frontal plane
plane divides the body into superior and inferior parts
Axial plane
accurately describes where one anatomical structure is in relation to another
Anatomical terms of position
towards the front
Anterior (ventral)
towards the back
Posterior (dorsal)
towards the top
Superior
towards the bottom
Inferior
towards the top (when referring to the skull and vertebral column)
Cranial (cephalic)
towards the bottom (when referring to the skull and vertebral column)
Caudal
