Anterior
A directional term meaning toward the front (of a human body)
Caudal
A directional term meaning toward the tail end of an animal
Caudocranial
Between the head and the tail
Contralateral
The opposite side of the body or structure
Cranial
A direction term meaning toward the head of the animal
Cranium
The cranial portion of the dorsal body cavity formed from the skull bones it houses the brain
Craniocaudal
Used to describe the location of structures along the body’s long axis relative to the head
Distal
A directional term used only for extremities of the body it implies a position or direction away from the body proper

A directional term meaning toward the top of the animal when it is standing on all four legs toward the backbone

A directional term meaning away from the median plane of the body
Lateromedial

Directional term meaning toward the median plane of the body
Mediolateral
A direction or axis that extends from side to side or from median to lateral
Palmar
Caudal surface of the forelimb from the carpus distally
Plantar
Caudal surface of the hindlimb from the tarsus distally
Posterior
A directional term meaning toward the back of the human body
Proximal
A directional term used only for the extremities of the body it implies a position of direction toward the body proper
Rostral
Toward the tip of the nose
