Incest
Having emotional and sexual relationships with someone of the same blood (cousin, brother, sister, etc)
Pederasty
Sexual activity involving a man and a boy or youth. Seen in Ancient Greece to mentor others on sexual practices
Libido & Thanatos
Sexual and life instincts while the other means death instinct
The ID
Most basic part of the personality and contains the libido. Often called as the pleasure principle , it seeks gratification and pleasure of its needs
The Ego
The reality principle as it exists to keep the ID in check. Often referred to as the parent. Tries to satisfy the ID necessities in a rational way that avoids self destruction
The Superego
Can be thought as our conscious and the judge of the ID and Ego. Tries to persuade ego to do what is moral not what’s realistic
Classical conditioning
Stimulus can be paired with another stimulus to produce an association. Example is Pavlov’s experiment of ringing a bell and showing a dog meat powder. The dog will associate the imaging of the bell as good thus induce salivation even when food isn’t around.
Operant conditioning
When behaviors are reinforced , rewarded or dealt with pleasurable consequences in terms of sexual activity, behavior is repeated. When behavior is punished (consequences are unpleasant) they occur with less frequency
Reparative therapy or conversion therapy
Invasive therapy involving conditioning principles to reverse ones sexual orientation. Extremely harmful to persons psychological well being
Social or observational learning
Behavioral tendencies are acquired through observation of other people
Exchange theories
Offer psychological explanations for human behavior and help us understand how social relationships are formed, maintained, and terminated
Comparison level
The standard by which we judge our relationships. Ex: comparing outcomes of current relationship to those of the past
Personality psychology
the study of relatively stable, intrapsychic factors that generate consistent patterns of behavior
The Big Five
Five distinct personality factors that influence a persons behavior

Erotophobic and Erotophilic
Erotophobc - strong and negative emotions towards sex and sexual activities
Erotophilic - strong and positive attitudes towards sex and sexual activities
