What is SSF 1604
Counterfeit Note Report - distributed to all financial institutions for use in forwarding counterfeit notes to the USSS

What are “Batch Reports”
large volume of counterfeit notes with a report attached to them, forwarded from the Federal Reserve Bank or Bank of America Cash Vault only
What kind of information do SSF 1604’s provide?
deposit date, depositors information, location, note information and additional comments
What is CTA?
Counterfeit Tracking Application
What does CTA do?
complete inventory of all CFT contraband to include both In Evidence and Not In Evidence (NIE)
Comprehensive electronic chain of custody for all inventories of CFT evidence
Detailed reports of history and statistics
What is the Processing procedure for an SSF 1604 form?
- Date Stamp the SSF 1604
- Examine the Note
- If genuine, return to sender
- Determine the type of CFT (traditional v. digital)
- Run the note in CTA and “US Dollars”
- If digitally produced, classify note
What does the USSS do to respond when receiving an SSF 1604 form?
USSS sends the financial institution an email receipt of the SSF 1604 if the FRN is CFT
What does the SSF do if an SSF 1604 reported note is genuine?
Currency will be returned to sender with the original SSF 1604 and an SSF 1605 via UPS of FedEx
What is an SSF 1605 form?
Genuine Note Report - returned with genuine notes
What is a Rapidprint number?
A Numbering Machine to uniquely identify a CFT item.
What gets stamped with a Rapidprint number?
The CFT Note along with the SSF 1604 (and/or SSF 1590)
What do the numbers in the Rapidprint number mean?
Ex. 115 3 00234
115 - Field Office
3 - Year
00234 - control number (assigned chronologically)
What is an NC report?
New Counterfeit report - an investigation initiated upon the appearance of a new counterfeit note.
What happens to an NC report if there no leads are developed?
The case remains open until a circular number has been assigned by CID and/or Closing IR
How is an NC report written?
The same as Investigative reports (120 requirement as well)
What should you do if a note that is printed with “traditional printing methods” comes in to your office, you run the note and it is not found in CTA and you receive negative results but you know it’s counterfeit?
Double Check note
Notify Supervisor
Obtain NC# utilizing CTA and print out SSF 1544
Initiate Investigation
What’s info should you try to get in your NC investigation?
Description of Note Date and Place of appearance Number of specimens available Any suspects identified? Any association to other CFT notes? Any unusual characteristics?
What is an NC #?
a temporary # assigned by CTA when it is reported electronically
