How would you proceed with a patient with presumed spinal traum

A

Triple immobolisation with
- Semi-rigid/hard collar. Neck blocks and tape.
- Patient put on spinal precautions
- Patient put on spinal board.

When would you CT the spine

A

NICE Guidance -
GCS less than 13 or patient intubated
Abnormal or technically inadequate plain radiographs
Polytrauma (if the patient is having other injuries scanned via CT)
If there is clinical suspicion of cervical spine injury and the patient is:
65 years or older
Dangerous mechanism of injury
Focal neurological deficit

NSAID Pneumonic
Neurology
Spinal tenderness
Alcohol Intoxication#
Inconcious otherwise debiliated
Distraction injuries.
