Cervical Spine Special Projections Flashcards
Patient position for Swimmers
Patient lateral.
Erect or recumbent.
Mid coronal plane to IR.
Arm closest to IR raised above head.
Swimmers CR and film
CR perpendicular or angle 3-5 degrees caudal at level of C7-T1 interspace. 1” above jugular notch
Film 10x12 LW
72” SID
Swimmers structures
Lateral projection of the cervicothoracic vertebrae between the shoulders.
Body of C7. C4-T3.
AP Fuch position
Supine. MSP to midline of grid. Suspend breathing.
Extend the chin until the tip of chin and tip of mastoid process are vertical.
Mentomeatal line perpendicular
AP Fuch CR
CR parallel mentomeatal line and inferior to mentum; and perpendicular to the IR
40”SID
AP Fuch structures
Odontoid process lying within the Foramen magnum
Swimmers aka
Lateral cervicothoracic
PA Judd position
Prone.
Extend the chin until the tip of chin and tip of mastoid process are vertical.
Mentomeatal line perpendicular.
PA Judd CR
CR parallel to mentomeatal line and perpendicular to IR.
Enters at base of skull.
PA Judd structures shown
Odontoid process lying within the Foramen magnum
Ottonello aka
AP Wagging Jaw
During the Ottonello, the patient must?
Continuously move mandible during exposure. Pt should not move their head.
Ottonello position
Lower margin of upper incisors and mastoid tip are perpendicular to the IR
Ottonello CR
CR perpendicular to upper margin of thyroid cartilage
Ottonello structures
Entire cervical spine free of superimposition of the mandible
