Cervical Spine Flashcards
Hangmans Fracture
Hyperextension of C2, and resulting fracture of pedicles of C2.
AA Joint
C1-C2
Primary motion is rotation, atlas rotates about the dens
Almost no side bending or flexion/extension
OA Joint
Occiput-C1
Flexion and Extension
Minor rotation and side bending Type 1-like
C2-C7
Rotation and side bending occur usually in the same direction, due to uncinate processes
Type 2-like
Cervical Segment Exam
Left rotation induced by anterior pressure on posterior aspect of right lateral mass
Translation from right to left—->SB R
Open Mouth Radiograph
Lateral masses of C1 should not overhand (extend wider than) the lateral masses of C2. If present, this is indicative of a burst fracture
45 Degree Oblique Views for Radiographs
-Right POSTERIOR oblique demonstrates the left foramina
Posterior obliques demonstrate the foramina opposite to your patient positioning
-Right ANTERIOR oblique demonstrates the right foramina
Anterior obliques demonstrate the foramina on the same side as your patient positioning
