Cervical Region Flashcards
Sternocleidomastoid
resist side flex towards, rotate away.
Longus Colli
active in neck flexion but too deep to palpate
Scalenus Anterior
All muscles help elevate and steady ribs during respiration and one side contracting produces side flexion. Anterior – both sides contracting produces neck flexion. To palpate resist side flexion or ask model to sniff quickly.
Scalenus Medius
All muscles help elevate and steady ribs during respiration and one side contracting produces side flexion. To palpate resist side flexion or ask model to sniff quickly.
Scalenus Posterior
All muscles help elevate and steady ribs during respiration and one side contracting produces side flexion. To palpate resist side flexion or ask model to sniff quickly.
ES- Longisimus capitis
have model prone and ask them to extend their spine and palpate either side of the spine
ES- Iliocostalis cervicis
have model prone and ask them to extend their spine and palpate either side of the spine
Trapezius (Upper)
between occipital protuberance and C6 and laterally to acromion, particularly during elevation and extension of the head at the neck
Levator Scapulae
Contraction of one side produces side flexion of the neck. Contraction of both sides produces neck extension.
Elevation of the scapula
