What is the main cause of cervical cancer?
A
- High-risk HPV (hr HPV), STI
(from persistent HPV infection)
Notes:
- Women AND men can be infected with HPV
- Exposure is ubiquitous
- HPV clears for most women in 8 - 24 months, especially ≤ 24 years old

Usually asymptomatic!!!

What are the 2020 HPV Vaccine 9v Gardasil recommendations?
A
- 9 - 14 years/virgin: 2 doses at 0, 6 months
(more effective if given prior to coitarche) - 9 - 14 years/sexually active: 3 doses
- 15 - 26 years: 3 doses at 0, 1 - 2, 6 months
- If 1 dose < 15 years: 2 more doses
- 9 - 26 yers and immunocompromised: 3 doses
- 27 - 45 years: Not routine but may be beneficial
