Cervical BLT, FPR & Still's Flashcards
For the OA joint (atlanto-occipital) joint, do sidebending and rotation occur in the same direction or opposite directions?
opposite
What part of the vertebra do you contact when assessing sidebending in the cervical spine?
articular pillar
What are the steps of BLT?
1) position structure in “shifted neutral”
2) have pt. hold breath in phase that is best ease
3) Repeat 1-3x
4) Reassess.
Set-up for OA BLT
1) pt. supine w/ doc seated at head
2) pincher grasp on lamina of C1 to stabilize
3) other hand moves head
Set-up for typical cervical spine BLT
1) pt. supine w/ doc seated at head
2) index fingers on articular pillars bilaterally
3) establish shifted neutral
What are the steps of FPR?
1) neutralize the curve
2) add < 1 lb compression
3) indirect positioning
4) hold 3-5 seconds
5) release, return, and reassess
Set-up for OA and typical cervical spine FPR
1) pt. supine w/ doc seated at head
2) pincher grasp
3) neutralize the curve
What are the steps of Still’s?
1) place pt. in position of ease
2) add < 5 lbs compression
3) move through direct barrier
4) release compression
5) Reassess
Set-up for AA Still’s Technique
1) pt. supine w/ doc seated at head
2) hands cradle parietotemporal region
3) index fingers on C1
4) place pt. in rotation position of ease
Set-up for OA Still’s Technique
1) pt supine w/ doc seated at head
2) pincher grasp
3) index finger on occiput, thumb on temple
4) other hand moves head into position of ease
What type(s) of mvmt does the AA joint do?
Rotation only
Do typical cervical vertebrae have sidebending and rotation in the same direction or opposite directions?
same
Set-up for typical cervical Still’s Technique
1) pt. supine w/ doc seated at head
2) doc cradles head
3) index fingers on articular pillars
4) place pt. in position of ease
