What eligibility is require for a private pilot certificate?
- Current third class medical
- Received the required ground and flight training endorsements
- Passed required knowledge and practical tests
What privileges and limitations apply to a private pilot?
- May not act as PIC carrying passengers or property for compensation or hire, nor may that person for compensation or hire act as PIC.
- May act as PIC in connection with any business or employment if it is only incidental to that business and doesn’t carry passengers or property for compensation or hire.
- May not pay less than pro rata share of operating expenses of a flight w/ passengers provided expenses involve only fuel, oil, airport expenditures or rental fees.
- May act as PIC of a charitable, nonprofit, or community event flight, if the sponsor and comply w/ requirements of 14 CFR 91.146
- May be reimburse for operating expenses directly related to search and location operations (involve only fuel, oil, expenditures, rental fees) is sanctioned and under direction and control of local, state or federal agencies
- Demonstrate a/c in flight to prospective buyer if pp is aircraft salesman and has 200 hrs logged
To act as required pilot flight crewmember of a civil aircraft, what must a pilot have in his/her physical possession or readily accessible in the a/c?

What is the definition of category?
broad classification of a/c (airplane, rotorcraft, glider, etc).
What is the definition of class?
a classification of a/c within a category having similar operating characteristics (SEL, MEL, etc)
What is the definition of type?
specific make and basic model of a/c including modifications that do not change its handling or flight characteristics (DC-9, B-737, C-150, etc)
What are the currency requirements?
- Preceding 24 months flight review in a/c which pilot is rated by instructor and received logbook endorsement (new type rating or licenses count)
- To carry passengers, within preceding 90 days must have made 3 takeoffs and landings as sole manipulator, same category, class and type rating if required (touch-n-go are fine)
- if tailwheel, landings must be full stop and in tailwheel airplane
- if operations are to be between the period beginning 1 hour after sunset and ending 1 hour before sunrise with passengers on board, within preceding 90 days made at least 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop during that period in a/c of same category, class and type (if required)
What medical certificate is required and how long is it valid?
-must hold at least third class—>expires at end of the last day of the 60th month after month of date of examination shown on the certificate if under age of 40—>expires at end of last day of 24th month after month of date of examination shown on the certificate if over the age of 40.
If pilot changes his/her permanent mailing address and fails to notify the FAA, how long may the pilot continue to exercise the privileges of his/her certificate?
30 days after the date of the move

Does an a/c’s registrations certificate have an expiration date?
Yes; specific registration expiration dates have been established for all aircraft registered before Oct 1, 2010; these a/c require re-registration according to specific schedule, All initial a/c registrations issued on or after Oct 1, 2010 will expire 3 years after last day of month in which they were issued.
Who is responsible for ensuring an a/c is maintained in airworthy condition?
owner or operator of an a/c
After a/c inspection have been made and defects have been repaired, who is responsible for determining that the a/c is in airworthy condition?
PIC of civil a/c
-shall discontinue flight when unairworthy mechanical, electrical or structural conditions occur.
What records or documents should be checked to determine that the owner or operator of an aircraft has complied with all required inspections and airworthiness directives?
Maintenance records (a/c and engine logbooks); each owner/operator shall ensure maintenance makes appropriate entries in records indicating a/c has been approved for return to service
What regulations apply concerning the operation of an a/c that has had alterations or repairs which may have substantially affected its operation in flight?
No person may operate or carry passengers in any a/c that has undergone maintenance, preventative maintenance, rebuilding, or alteration that may have appreciably changed its flight characteristics or substantially affected its operation in flight until an appropriately rated pilot w/ at least private pilot, flies the a/c, makes an operational check of maintenance performed or alteration made and logs the flight in the a/c records.
