CERN Questions Flashcards
1
Q
Tell me about yourself… (9)
A
- My name is Bradley
- I am currently pursuing a degreee in Physics with Astrophysics integrated Masters
- My passion started in Secondary school when introduced to Physics teacher, Dr Eloff
- Since then I have found my passion in mostly Astrophysics, but recently in University have found particle physics as a passion too.
- I have always been fond of Coding, Mathematics and Physics for as long as I can think
- These subjects taught me: Technology Skills, Adaptability, Group Work & Communication Skills
- In addition to my technical skills, I am known for my resilience, strong will and the ability to make the best out of a bad situation.
- Outside of work, I am incredibly passionate about the Gym ever since my Granddad introduced me to his garage gym when I was 11, and as of recently this year also weekly MMA training.
- I am excited about the possibility of contributing to CERN and leveraging my skills in the role.

Q
A project you’re proud of and why… (8)
A
- A project in my life that I’m proud of is called: BARRI. (Portfolio Website)
- Heavily inspired from JARVIS from the IRON MAN comics/ movies
- Was more a Desktop Assistant
- It could access apps and talk back with playing of audio.
- Since then, I have honed my skills in Data analysis, Adaptability, Overall Coding and Problem-Solving skills.
- This project proved to me at a young age that I have the ability to EXECUTE tasks and projects that I set out to accomplish. (Even if they seem like Science Fiction dreams)
- This experience allowed me to develop strong debugging skills and a deep understanding of Algorithmic Thinking.
- will restart the old project this summer as wanting to invest in my own Raspberry Pi and Peripherals

Q
Your technical/administrative strengths… (4)
A
- key technical strength: proficiency in computational thinking and data analysis.
- Solid foundation in programming languages such as Python, R and C++, which I’ve leveraged to develop both professional and custom projects of my own.
- Administrative Strength: Skilled at prioritizing tasks (Prioritize and Execute) and communication among team members.
- Whether it’s experimental labs or preparing reports, I strive for efficiency and professionalism in all aspects of my work.

Q
Your MOTIVATION as well as what your ideal work ENVIRONMENT looks like and what you hope to GAIN from this experience (6)
A
- What motivates me: Contribute to scientific discoveries and advancements.
- Driven by the prospect of tackling challenging problems and pushing the boundaries of Science
. - My ideal work environment is one that promotes collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
- I thrive in environments where ideas are freely exchanged, and individuals are encouraged to explore new approaches. (Aligns well with CERN’s Values and Code of Conduct)
. - At CERN, I look forward to engaging with a diverse community of scientists and engineers united by their commitment to advancing physics.
- Deepen understanding of collaborative scientific research and enhance my technical skills.

Q
Why are you interested in working here?
A
- The opportunity to work at CERN is truly a Dream for me
- First got my attention when 2012 Higgs Boson discovery (Learnt of Higgs Field in UNI) -> fascinated ever since, always been a dream to work there.
- Project on horizon: Future Circular Collider (FCC), CERN always looking to “pushing the boundaries of human knowledge”, Would like to add value to such a company
- A dynamic and stimulating environment
- enhance my technical skills in physics, data analysis, and experimental techniques
- I see CERN as a place where I can grow not only professionally but also personally.
