Risk Factors
Complications in birth:
Prematurity, hypoxia in birth, meningitis infection, CMV, Intraventricular haemorrhage.
Causes periventricular leucomalacia
Symptoms/Signs
Stiffness/floppyness (hypotonia and spasticity)
Weak limbs
Jerky uncontrolled movements
Tip toes
Not achieving developmental milestones (walking, tremor, dysphagia)
Goes along with learning disability
Investigations
Diagnosis made in specialist Neuro by clinical
USS head can show lesions in brain. If nothing in USS then MRI head.
CT maybe? PET CT also used to find causes.
Management
MDT role (OT, Physio, Speech therapist, ortho (scoliosis), neuro and paeds involvement)
Diazepam
Botulinum injections which helps with spasticity.
