Q

Input & output

A
  • input and output via the peduncles (inf, med, sup)

- only output via the PERKINJE cells-inhibitory …reduces descending output

Q

Vestibulocerebellum

A

Function: VOR, balance , posture
Subdivisions: floccus, nodulus
Input: vestibular input directly from 8th cranial nerve…vestibulocochlear
Output: back to vestibular nuclei
Deficits: balance, posture and eye movement

Q

Spinocerebellum

A

Function: sensory integration, (efferent copy) and gain of descending outputs for multi joint movements and dynamic stability
Subdivision-intermediate zone and vermis-somatotopically organized
Input :somatosensory info from periphery , visual and vestibular info
Output :M1 areas via the thalamus
Deficits: smooth control of muscles and gain of muscle tone, uncertain starts and stops, and unequal steps

Q

Cerebrocerebellum

A

Function: visually guided and goal directed movements
Subdivisions: none
Input :m1 , promotor cortex frontal and posterior parietal lobes
Output: thalamus, circuit with motor areas
Deficits: visually guided movements ,dysdiadochonkinesia(slap hand to face after force is removed), dysmentria (can’t put finger to nose)

Q

Deficits In cerebellum

A

-wide base of support…ataxic gate (very unstable )

Q

How the cerebellum is involved in voluntary movement

A

FEEDBACK (for slow movements) -the desired output is compared continuously with the actual output (efferent copy)
Pro-accurate output, con-slow
FEEDBACK: for rapid movements. Sensory feedback is evaluated before the output program is generated.
-adapts with experience

Q

Alcohol and cerebellum

A

Alcohol can cause LTD in your cerebellum …results In ataxic gate

Q

Cerebellum vs. Basal ganglia

A

Basal ganglia: involved in planning and gain of complex movements
Cerebellum:is concerned with the coordination of ongoing movements (but also involved in planning-FEEDFORWARD and feedback )
