Cerebellum Flashcards
Mention cells of the molecular layer and their location
Stellate cells, superficial
Basket cells, deep
Function of basket cells
Their axpns form basket-like terminal aborization around cell bodies of Purkinje cell bodies of up to 10 cells.
Mention fibers present in molecular layer
Dendrites of Golgi type II cells, Purkinje cells
Axons of granule cells, or recurrent from Purkinje
Climbing fibers afferent to cerebellum
Dendritesand axons of own cells
Describe cell body of Purkinje cell
Large pyriform flask-shaped cell body has central vesicular nucleus and coarse cytoplasmic Nissl’s granules.
Tertiary branches of dendrites of Purkinje fibers shown ……while 1ry and 2ry are…
Spines and gemmules
Smooth
Axons of Purkinje pass through ….. to…..
Granular layer amd white matter
Synapse with the deep cerebellar nuclei
Mention cells of granular layer
Granule cells
Golgi type II cells
Describe granule cells
Large rounded nuclei with thin rim of cytopalsm
Dendrites have claw like termination on glomerulus. Axons extend in molecular layer parallel to the the surface they synapse with dendrites of Purkinje
Describe Golgi type II cells
Upper part of granular layer, dendrites extend in all layer of cortex while axons end on cerebellar glomerulus.
Describe composition of cerebellar islands
- Axons of Golgi type II cells
- Dendrites of gramular cells
- Axons of ascending Mossy fibers
Describe function of cerebellar islands
This structure excites granular cells which in turn excite Purkinje cells. Axons of granule cell (unmyelinated) ascend to molecular layer to synapse with Purkinje dendrites
…..is the only excitatory cell of cerebellar cortex
Granule cells
All Purkinje discharge to …. except ….which discharge to….
Cerebellar nuclei
Flocculonodular lobe
Vestibular nuclei
