Ceramic Flashcards
Advantages.
Superior esthetic
2- Excellent translucency
3- Good tissue response
with subgingival margins.
slightly less tooth reduction
from the facial surface than with
metal-ceramic crown, although
the lingual surface needs
additional reduction for strength
Disadv
1) Reduced strength
2) Brittle, therefore, more susceptible to fracture.
Significant tooth
reduction is necessary on
proximal and lingual aspects
(structural durability)
Difficulties may be associated
with obtaining a well fitting
margin.
5) Proper design is critical for
mechanical success.
6) Wear has been observed on the
functional surfaces of natural teeth
that oppose rough (unpolished )
ceramic restorations.
7) All-ceramic crown is not suitable
as FPD retainer
Overshortened preparation will create
stress concentrations in the labiogingival
area of crown (half-moon fracture)
Indication
Indication
1-Areas with high esthetic requirement
2- Sufficient tooth structure to support
the restoration particularly incisal area
3-Favourable distribution of occlusal
load.
Fractured anterior teeth not involving more than1/3 of inciso-
gingival length.o
Discolored- Malformerd- Malposed
or Rotated teeth.
Contraindication
When more conservative restoration
can be done.
2- It is not possible to provide adequate
support or an even shoulder width of at
least 1mm
o Teeth with short cervical crowns , they do
not have enough preparation
o Length to support the restoration
3- When superior strength is needed.
If occlusal load is unfavourable:
• Teeth with an edge-to-edge occlusion
• When the opposing teeth occlude on the cervical
fifth of the lingual surface tension will be
produced, and a half-moon fracture is likely to
occur
Patient with short clinical crown.
5- Younger patient with large vital
pulp.
6- Thin teeth facio-lingually or with
constricted cervical circumference
