Ceftriaxone
3rd generation Cephalosporin (Parenteral)
- adult dose: 1-2 g/day once or every 12 hours.
- DON’T mix Ceftriaxone and calcium-containing products e.g. Ringer’s Solution.
- Excretion is through biliary duct; no dose adjustment in renal insufficiency.
- Along with Cefazolin, used in surgical prophylaxis.
- Not used in premature neonates and hyperbilirubinemia; displaces bilirubin.
