Centripetal Force Flashcards
1
Q
Define circular motion.
A
An object is moving in a circular path at a constant speed due to force acting towards the centre of the circle.
2
Q
Define the centripetal force.
A
A constant net force towards the centre of rotation, which is perpendicular to the velocity. The speed is constant around the circular path, as it is the magnitude of the force. F=mv^2/r =mω^2r.
3
Q
Define centripetal acceleration.
A
The acceleration acting on a body in circular motion, is in the same direction as the centripetal force (towards the centre). a=v^2/r = ω^2r.
