Centripetal Force Flashcards
A centripetal force is any force that induces circular motion in an object. In our experiement what will serve as the centripetal force?
-the tension in the string.
How is the centripetal force related to the radius of the circular path the mass is moving on?
-The force is inversely proportional to the radius of the path.
How is the centripetal force related to the tangential velocity of the mass?
-The force is proportional to the square of the tangential velocity of the mass.
How many masses did we use to perform the experiment?
-five differnet masses.
For an object moving in a circle there must be a nonzero net force acting on it. Which of newton’s Laws tells us this?
-Newton’s First Law.
