What is cementum and some of its features?
A
Special type of calcified structure attached to the root of the tooth
- Covers root dentine
- Provides attachment to periodontal fibres
- 2 types of cementum: cellular & acellular

What are the 2 types of cementum called and where can each be found
A
Cellular cementum: Found at apical region of root
(contains cells)
Acellular: Found on sides of root
(no cells)

What are sharpey’s fibres and whats their function?
A
A matrix of connective tissues (predominantly collagen fibres) which connect the cementum to the periosteum (of alveolar bone)
