contains cementocytes
later formed (secondary cementum)

Q

what are the 3 options for the amelo - cementum junction

A

1 - cementum overlaps enamel
2 - cementum meets enamel
3 - gap between cementum and enamel exposing dentine (causes sensitivity)

Q

what is the alternative classification of cementum

A

origin of matrix fibres
acellular, extrinsic fibre cementum - contains mostly sharpeys fibres which are extrinsic (outside) to cementum (cervical 2/3)
cellular , intrinsic fibre cementum - no role in tooth attachment therefore no sharpeys fibres. found in apical region of tooth aand fibres are intrinsic
