Cement Base Materials Flashcards
Setting time of polycarboxylate cement?
2-6 minutes
Why is polycarboxylate cement is suitable for sensitive teeth?
Because polyacrylic acid has large sizes of molecules so can’t penetrate into dentinal tubules
Manipulation of polycarboxylate?
-using cooled slab(increasing working time)
-mixing should be done within 30-40 second
-the liquid should not be dispensed until just prior to the time of mixing (to avoid evaporation of water)
Patient with high caries index, which type of cement should we use?why?
Glass ionomer cement, because it releases fluoride
Is Glass ionomer sensitive to water?
Yes and the field must isolated completely
Wich type of bonding in :-
1-polycarboxylate cement
2-glass ionomer cement
1-chemical adhesion to enamel and dentin wich carboxylate groups chelate with calcium in dentin and enamel
2-ionic interaction with calcium and phosphate from the surface of enamel and dentin
How can I increase bonding of glass ionomer cement?
Etching with 37% phosphoric acid ,producing porosities on the surface so mechanical retention will be achieved
Bonding in resin cement?
Acid-etch technique
Polymerisation is achieved in resin cement by?
1-light cure
2-self cure
3-dual cure
The amount of fillers within resin cement?
40%-80%
The functions of Fillers in resin cement?
1-higher mechanical properties
2-reduce polymerisation shrinkage
3-lower coefficient thermal expansion
