Cells1 Flashcards
Cell theory states. (3)
- All living things are made of cells.
- The cell is the basic unit of life.
- All cells come from pre-existing cells.
Characteristics of living things. (5)
- Grow, Reproduce, and repair themselves.
- Require energy.
- Respond to changes in their environment.
- Have a lifespan.
- Produce waste
Cytoplasm.
Organelles are suspended in the cytoplasm, and materials are transported through it.
Cell Membrane.
Outside of the cell. Controls movement in and out of the cell.
Nucleus.
The control centre of the cell. Contains chromosomes that contain the information for the cell to function and reproduce.
Vacuole.
Stores water and nutrients.
Mitochondria.
The powerhouse of the cell. Converts nutrients into energy that the cell can use.
Ribosome.
Makes the synthesized proteins that the cells need.
Endoplasmic reticulum.
Holds the proteins made by the ribosomes and packages them in vesicles to travel through the cytoplasm.
Golgi body.
Responsible for packaging and further process of proteins.
Cell wall.
Allows nutrients, wastes, and water to pass through.
Chloroplasts.
The green organelle is the site of photosynthesis. It makes food from the sun’s energy.
Types of unicellular organisms.
Bacterium, amoeba, paramecium, euglena.
Types of multicellular organisms.
Intestinal, nerve, muscle, blood
What is diffusion?
when a substance moves from an area of high concentration moves to an area of low concentration
