Cells, Tissues & Organs Flashcards
Cell wall
The rigid structure around plant and algae cells. It is made of cellulose and strengthens the cell.
Cytoplasm
Where chemical reactions of life take place.
Nucleus
Contains genetic information surrounded by the nuclear membrane.
Cell membrane
Controls what goes in and out
Chloroplasts
The organelles in which photosynthesis takes place.
Mitochondria
The site of aerobic cellular respiration in a cell.
Ribosomes
Where the protein is made- protein synthesis
Vacuole
A space of vesicles within the cutoff a cell enclosed by a membrane and typically containing fluid. Contains cell sap.
Tissues
A group of cells working together to form an organ.
Organ
A group of tissues working together
Cells
Basic unit of life
Organisms
A group of organs working together
Bodysystem
Collection of organs, tissue and specialised cells that allow the organism to carry out one of the 7 life processes
MRS GREN
M-movement
R-reproduce
S-sensitive
G-growth
R-respiration
E-excreution(emptying)
N-nutrition
Meristem cell
The unspecialised cell found in plants
Stem cell
The unspecialised cell found in animals
