CELLS (specialised cells) Flashcards
1
Q
what are the examples of specialised animal cells ?
A
- Egg Cell
- Sperm Cell
- Muscle Cell
- Nerve Cell
- Red Blood Cell
2
Q
what are the examples of specialised plant cells ?
A
- Palisade Cell
- Root Hair Cell
3
Q
Why is an Egg Cell a Specialised Cell ?
A
It has a spongy layer outside that protects the cell and attracts sperm.
4
Q
Why is Sperm Cell a Specialised Cell ?
A
- It has enzyme in the head to help enter the egg cell.
- It has lots of mitochondria to release energy
- it has a tail for swimming
5
Q
Why is Muscle Cell a specialised Cell ?
A
- it has lots of mitochondria to release energy
* it is a long cell to be able to contract and relax to move around.
6
Q
Why is Nerve Cell a specialised cell ?
A
- it has branches connections to connect to other nerve cell.
- it is long so that it can transmit signals a long distance
7
Q
What makes red blood cell a specialised cell.
A
- it contains haemoglobin ( a red pigment that binds oxygen)
- It has a large surface area to carry oxygen
- It has no nucleas
8
Q
Why is Palisade cell a specialised cell ?
A
- it’s packed full of chloroplast for photosynthesis
- It’s tall and thin, so lots of cells can be packed together in the leaf
9
Q
Why is root hair cell a specialised cell ?
A
- It has lot’s of mitochondria to release energy
- It has a large surface area to absorb water
- It doesn’t have chloroplast as it’s underground and so it doesn’t do photosynthesis
