Cells & Organelles, Genetics, Tissues Flashcards
Types of Body Fluid
- Intracellular Fluid, ICF (Within body cell)
- Extracellular Fluid, ECF (Outside body cell)
Types of ECF
- Blood
- Plasma
- CSF
- Aqueous humor
- Vitreous humor
- Lymph
- Synovial Fluid
- Interstitial Fluid (btw cells)
Component of Feedback System
- Stimulus
- Receptor
- Control Center
- Effector
- Response
Types of Feedback Mechansim
- Positive
- Negative
Difference between a SIGN and a SYMPTOM
- Signs are objective changes that can be observed and measured (such as swelling, rash, fever, high blood pressure)
- Symptoms are subjective changes not apparent to an observer (such as headache, nausea, pain, anxiety)
Body Cavities
DORSAL
- Cranial Cavity
- Vertebral Canal
VENTRAL
- Thoracic Cavity
- Abdominopelvic Cavity
Organs inside the Ventral Body Cavity are termed
Viscera
Difference between Serous membrane and a Mucous membrane
- Serous Membrane lines a body cavity that does not open to the exterior.
- Mucous Membrane is a membrane that lines a body cavity that does open to the exterior.
Types of Serous Membrane
- Pleural Membrane (Lungs)
- Pericardial Membrane (Heart)
- Peritoneal Membrane (Abdomen)
*Each has a parietal layer (lines the wall) and a visceral layer (covers the organ).
In between the layers are the respective cavities…. i.e.
Pleural Cavity; Pericardial Cavity; Peritoneal Cavity
Pleurisy, also called
Pleuritis,
–inflammation of the pleurae
The Abdominopelvic regions are 9, formed by 4 lines. What are they?
2 Horizontal lines:
- Subcostal line
- Transtubercular line (across the iliac tubecles)
2 Vertical Lines:
- R Mid-clavicular line
- L Mid-clavicular line
The 9 Abdominopelvic regions are….
R Hypochondriac; Epigastric; L Hypochondriac
R Lumbar; Umbilical; L Lumbar
R Inguinal (Iliac); Hypogastric (Pubic); L Inguinal (Iliac)
