Cells flashcards
Living organisms
The 7 characteristics are: movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion and nutrition.
Cell
Cell is a living organism, there are more than one type of cell. The building block of life. An organism is made up of many cells
Cell membrane
It surrounds the outside of the cytoplasm in a cell. Around a animal cell and act like a barrier.
Nucleus
The nucleus holds DNA. Controls the cells
Cytoplasm
Material within a living cell. Jelly like substance inside the cell and the chemical reactions take place here.
Mitochondria
An organelle found in most cells. They come in big groups. This is where respiration happens when energy is taken from food
Vacuole
The space inside a cytoplasm
Chloroplast
Traps sunlight , energy to use in photosynthesis. Found in plant cells and some unicellular
Cell wall
Outside of a plant cell. Gives structure of the cells.
Eyepiece lens
Lens you look through in a microscope and has 10 times magnification.
Objective lens
On a microscope there are three objective lenses. Low power, high power and medium power.
Coarse focus
It can help you see a ruff image
Fine focus wheel
To help you see it clearer
Stage
Where you put the slide
Total magnification
Eyepiece times the objective lens
Unicellular organisms
1 cell in it
Diffusion
I place of high to low concentration
Hazard symbols
Toxic, corrosive, environmentally damaging , poisonous…
Nerve cell adaptation p
It is long so it can get around the body quicker
Red blood cell adaptations
It does not have a nucleus, contains haemoglobin
Sperm cell adaptations
It has a tail so it can get around the body quicker
Root hair cell adaptations
It collects water
Binary fission
The method to divide cells
Passive process
Does not requirer any energy from the body
Permanent vacuole
Large area in a plant cell which cells food. Sap
Amoeba adaptations
Flagellum, eye spot , chloroplast
