Cells & Cell organisation Flashcards
what is another word for living things?
Organisms
What helps to see a Cell?
A Microscope and it also helps if you stain it.
What is a nucleus?
A nucleus controls what the cell does
what is the cytoplasm?
the cytoplasm is a jelly like substance where chemical reactions take place
What is the cell membrane?
Cell membrane is the outer layer which controls what goies in and out of the cell.
What is Mitochondria?
Mitochondria ia a tiny structure that releases energy in to the cell.
what is cell wall?
A Cell Wall is only found in plantsand they offer support and protection.it is made of cellulose.
What is Vacuole?
Vacuole is a Structure that is in the middle of a plant cell.It is filled with cell sap which is a weak solution of sugar and salt.
what is Chloroplast?
Chloroplasts are only found in a plant cell because they contain chlorophyll which is used for photosynthesis.
what does unicellular means?
Unicellular is when a living thing is made of only one cell.
what ate two examples of Unicellular plants?
Euglena and Amoeba
what is a Flagellum?
It is a tail like structure that helps organisms to swim.
what is a contractile Vacuole?
A contractile vacuole is used to collect any excess water inside the cell and squeeze it out the cell membrane.
what is a tissue made up of?
A group of similar cells.
what is an organ made up of?
A group of different tissues.
what makes an organ system?
A group of organs.
what makes a multi cellular organism?
Several organ systems.
what two things do cells need to survive?
Glucose and Oxygen.
what do cells need to get rid of?
Carbon dioxide.
what is the process called when materials move IN or OUT of cells?
Diffusion.
what exactly is Diffusion?
It’s where a substance moves from a area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
