Cells and the functions Flashcards
Mitochondria
Double membraned organelle that breaks down glucose and turns it into energy.
Lysosome
Vesicles with enzymes that break down waste and bacteria
Plasma/cell Membrane
Protective outside layer of a cell that lets some things in and keeps other things out
Golgi apparatus
made of flat vesicles that package things to leave the cell
Cytoplasm
the watery shit that the organelles float around in
Nucleus
contains all our genetic information on 23 pairs of chromosomes making up our DNA, CONTROLS THE CELL
Ribosomes
little grains floating around the cell and around the rough endoplasmic reticulum. does protein synthesis
Nuclear membrane
surround the nucleus and controls what goes in and out
vacuole
membrane sacs for storage
rough endoplasmic reticulum
contains ribosomes and makes proteins
bacteria doubles in how long?
take 20 minutes to double themselves
Chloroplasts
are found in plant cells and make food from light
fungi differences between plant cells
have chitin as a cell wall
are consumers not producers
Prokaryotes, where is the dna stored?
multicellular or unicellular?
are always unicellular, dna is stored in cytoplasm
Eukaryotes, where is the dna stored
multicellular or unicellular?
are often multicellular, dna is in the nucleus
