Cells And Simple Cell Transport Flashcards
What does a nucleus contain?
Contains genetics material that controls the activities of the cell.
What is cytoplasm?
Gel-like substance where chemical reactions take place. It contains enzymes which controls the chemical reactions.
What is a cell membrane?
Holds the cell together and controls what substances go into and out of the cell.
What happens in the mitochondria?
Reactions for respiration takes place here. Respiration releases energy that the cell needs in order to work.
What are ribosomes?
It is where proteins are made in the cell.
What other parts do a plant cell have as well that an animal cell doesn’t?
Rigid cell wall, permanent vacuole, chloroplasts.
What is a rigid cell wall?
It is made of cellulose. It supports the cell and strengthens it.
What does a permanent vacuole contain?
It contains cell sap, which is a weak solution of sugar and salts.
What do chloroplasts contain?
It contains chlorophyll, which absorb light energy to make food. it is where photosynthesis occur.
What is a yeast cell?
Yeast is a single-celled organism. Yeast cells have a nucleus, cytoplasm and a membrane surrounded by a cell wall.
What does a bacterial cell consist of?
A bacterial cell consists of cytoplasm and a cell membrane surrounded by a cell wall; the genes are not in a distinct nucleus, it floats in the cytoplasm.
What does diffusion allow?
Diffusion allows dissolved substances to move in and out of cells.
What is diffusion?
Diffusion is the spreading out of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
Example of diffusion in the respiratory system.
Oxygen required for respiration passes through cell membranes by diffusion.
What factor determines the diffusion rate?
The bigger the difference in concentration, the faster the diffusion rate.
