Cells and Simple Cell Transport Flashcards
What does the nucleus do?
Contains the genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
What does the cytoplasm do?
Most of the chemical reactions take place here. They are controlled by enzymes.
What does the cell membrane do?
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
What do the mitochondria do?
Where respiration takes place, this releases energy
What do the ribosomes do?
It creates the cells proteins
Facts about the cell wall
Made of cellulose
Only found in plant cells
Permanent vacuole
Only found in plant cells
Chloroplasts
Where photosynthesis takes place. Contains a green substance called chlorophyll.
Details about yeast
Microorganisms.
Contains a nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane and a cell wall
Bacterial cells
Has no nucleus. The genetic material floats in the cytoplasm.
Definition of diffusion
The gradual movement if particles from a high concentration to a low concentration.
