Cells And Microscopy Flashcards
What 4 features do plant and animal cells share
Nucleus- control centre of the Cell contains the DNA
Cell membrane- holds cell together and controls what enters and leaves cell
Cytoplasm- gel like substance where chemical reactions occur
Mitochondria- where reaction for respiration happens (energy released)
What are all living things made up of?
Cells
What 3 extra features do plant cells have?
Vacuole- contains weak solution of cell Sap
Chloroplasts- where photosynthesis occurs, contains chlorophyll
Cell wall- this contains cellulose to make cell wall rigid
Describe a bacterial cell
It has no nucleus but chromosomal DNA where all information is stored and activities carried out. It has a flagellum which propels the cell forward to move, it has a cell wall to support the cell and plasmids which are extra DNA.
What do plasmids contain
Extra DNA for things like drug resistance which can be passed between cells
Where is bacterias chromosomal DNA found
In the cytoplasm as they have no nucleus
When where light microscopes invented
1590’s
When where electron microscopes invented
1930’s
Describe the difference between the 2 microscopes
Light microscopes don’t allow us to see much detail just things like mitochondria and nuclei where as electron microscopes allow us to see more detail like the plasmids and inside of the mitochondria
How do you calculate magnification
Length of image ➗ length if specimen
