Cells and Microorganisms Flashcards
cell membrane
outer layer of the cell controlling what comes in and out
bacteria
tiny unicellular organism that can be good or bad
cell
the smallest unit of life
cell wall
the outside of the cell that creates the structure and shape of the cell
nucleus
the control center of the cell
cytoplasm
a thick liquid that holds all of the organelles in a cell
chloroplast
a bean shaped organelle that contains chlorophyll to create food sources
pathogens
tiny unicellular organisms that can curate health issues
microscope
a scientific instrument used to identify microorganisms
mitochondria
red bean like organelles that contain energy inside of cells
vacuole
a storage organelle containing a liquid of some sort and usually food or waste molecules
microorganism
a tiny living thing
Which organelle in the cell contains DNA? (Deoxyribonucleic Acid)
The nucleus contains DNA and chromosomes.
How do animal cells and plants cells differ?
Animal cells do not have a cell wall or chloroplasts. Plant cells do though. Humans are made of animals cells and not plant cells.
Name three ways bacteria can be useful.
It can help your digestive system. The wax in your ears and the mucus in your nose help to trap harmful bacteria. When you go to clean your ears and blow your nose the bad bacteria will get out.
How does bacteria help in human digestion?
The bacteria in your body can turn unhealthy food into useful chemicals for your body.
How do microorganisms help the ecosystem?
Microorganisms can recycle the dead, decompose, make medicine, and more. When something dies its’ remains soak into the soil and grow into something new.
Why should we cook raw meat before consumption?
Raw meat can carry a lot of bacteria, parasites, and diseases depending on the animal your eating. Pigs meat includes, pork, porkchop, pork shoulder, pork belly, pork loin, pork butt (or ham), pig feet, and the head. Pigs will eat everything. Including their own excrete.
Where can microorganisms be found?
They are everywhere. They can be on any object, in the air, and most likely on you.
