Cells And Living Things Flashcards
Cell membrane
Very thin layer that surrounds the cell. Holds cell contents in place and controls what passes into and out of the cell.
Nuecleus
Is normally round. It acts as the control center of the cell. It has the DNA.
Cytoplasm
The watery liquid found between the nucleus and the cell membrane.
Mitochondria
Supply energy to the cell
Cell wall
Find outside the cell membrane of a plant cell, gives enough strength to the cell.
Valcuole
Space containing water sugar and waste, gives strength to the cell
Chloroplasts
Contains chlorophyll to help make food using sunlight (photosynthesis)
Invertebrates
Animals that do not have a backbone are called invertebrates.
Eg: worm.
Vertebrates
Animals that have a backbone are called vertebrates. Eg: dog.
Vertebrates are normally bigger and more complex animals than invertebrates.
