Cells And Levels Of Organization Flashcards
What is the function of the cell membrane?
Regulates what enters and leaves the cell.
What are the characteristics of life?
Made up of at least one cell. (Moves, reproduces, uses energy, grows, etc.)
What is the function of the cell wall?
Support and protect the cell. Found only in plants.
What is the function of the nucleus?
Controls cell activity. (Control center;brain)
What is the function of the chloroplast?
Uses radiant energy to produce food. (Photosynthesis)
What is the function of the mitochondria?
Break down glucose and release energy.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
Holds organelles. (Jelly like substance)
What is the function of the vacuole?
Storage. (Larger in plants)
How does the structure of a plant cell and it’s organelles differ from the structure of an animal cell and it’s organelles?
Plant cell has cell wall and chloroplast.
What are chromosomes? Where are they located?
Contain heredity information; DNA. Located in the nucleus.
What are the levels of organization in plants and animals?
Cells-tissues-organs-organ system
