cells and cell structure Flashcards
What is the function of a cell’s nucleus?
The nucleus controls the activities of the cell. An individual cell does not have a brain.
What is the function of the ribosomes?
Ribosomes are the site of protein synthesis. Mitochondria are the site of energy release by respiration.
Which of these is a part found in plant cells but not in animal cells?
Plant cells have a cell wall but animal cells do not.
Which part is missing from human red blood cells?
Human red blood cells do not have a nucleus.
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles from high concentration to low concentration
Which change would NOT speed up diffusion in an animal cell?
Making the cell membrane thinner and moving the blood supply closer would speed up diffusion.
Which substance moves out of respiring cells?
Carbon dioxide moves out of respiring cells. Glucose moves into respiring cells.
How are bacterial cells different from animal cells?
Bacterial cells have a cell wall and no nucleus; animal cells have a nucleus but no cell wall.
How are yeast cells different from bacterial cells?
Yeast cells have a nucleus but bacterial cells do not. Yeast cells and bacterial cells have cells walls.
